Royal Academy of Dance The Royal Academy of Dance is an internationally recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate and reward students of different ages and abilities. It is a progressive structure for learning and achievement in dance. With achievable goals and recognition from the world’s largest ballet examination board the syllabus also incorporates national and contemporary dance giving the student an all round vocabulary of traditional and modern styles through Classical Ballet, Mime, Character.
At West Pointe we offer RAD Graded exams from Primary, Grade 1 right through to Advanced and Solo Seal. Boys and girls are catered for their individual needs in respective classes.
Vaganova Coaching – Coupled with the RAD syllabus we offer weekly group classes and private tuition based on the Russian Vaganova method. Originally developed by Agrippina Vaganova, the Vaganova Method combines elements of the French romantic ballet’s lyricism and the Italian ballet’s athleticism to reform the old imperial method of teaching. It emphasises the simultaneous development of both technical proficiency and individual artistry, and a complete range of movement expression that comes out of proper placement and a strong classical dance foundation.
Contemporary & Lyrical Dance – Contemporary ballet is taught once weekly to students from Primary upwards. Lyrical workshops are held throughout the term.
Tiny Ballet Dancers – Our youngest dancers from approximately 3 years to 8 years old undertake our preparatory “Tiny Ballet Dancers” Program. This is an age appropriate dance and movement system that draws from the RAD and Vaganova methodologies. Tiny Ballet Dancers prepares young people for their future ballet years.
Aspire Program – Aspire is a specially developed program for those students who aspire to a career in professional dance or dance teaching. Regular workshops with experienced professional dancers are on offer to enhance and further develop technical skill. Places are by invitation from the Principal or by application.
